The soul's freedom, or only one door

 


I would like to share a few thoughts with the followers of Srila Prabhupada—thoughts not based on mere invention. It is my personal conviction that one can indeed follow Srila Prabhupada and that he truly assists such individuals. However, doing so requires adapting more closely to the expectations of Indian culture, even in the present modern days —embracing isolation, withdrawal from the material world, and renunciation of material things. Yet, the modern Western person must achieve spiritual growth precisely within the material world, alongside their daily lifestyle. Modern individuals should unite certain achievements of the Western world with the wisdom of the East, creating a synthesis that allows them to imbue the material world with a higher spirituality. Those for whom Srila Prabhupada’s path is not the final destination will sense it if love does not fully blossom within them. If we believe in a loving Supreme Deity, why do we not also believe that He is limitless—and that the paths He offers cannot be restricted to just one single way for everyone in every times? It is not a matter of a door closing, but rather of new doors constantly opening. These thoughts do not imply that we should move beyond Srila Prabhupada’s teachings; rather, they suggest that those teachings should serve to help and strengthen us on the path of the soul’s freedom.

The plant was reacting with fear

  Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa: Sometimes people ask, Prabhupāda, that if one falls down into lower species of life like plants or animals, how then do they come again to the human form of life? Prabhupāda: Yes. That is nature's way. Give them again chance to develop. From trees they become flies. That is the beginning of movement. Why is this human life in such a diseased condition?

Gargamuni: Why is this human form of life, why is this human life in such a diseased condition with war, pestilence, and famine? Prabhupāda:   These are miserable conditions inflicted by material nature just to remind the conditioned soul that this conditioned life in the material nature is not for you. There is another place, where you can live very peacefully. Just like in the prison life there is always infliction of miseries. If in the prison life one is comfortably situated, then he'll never go out, he'll try to live there. So these material inflictions of miseries reminds us that this place is not suitable for us.
